Happy Birthday to me! A blog

Here goes. I think. A birthday present to myself. A blog?!? And yes today is my birthday.

This is the first of hopefully many more thoughts that I hope are found useful to some. I figured the first post should give at least the general outline of what I hope to accomplish with this. Of course, it may change over time as any good plan should. But for starters (in no particular order):

  1. Share knowledge Higher Education is all about gaining knowledge, so to that extent I hope that some of the things that I share are able to help someone out.  That would be good.
  2. Gain Knowledge As I come up with ideas (this part scares me), I plan on putting some research behind the thoughts and ideas so as not to sound like a complete idiot. Hopefully, through this I will gain a little knowledge that I can pass on.
  3. Remember things Hopefully by writing some things down I will better be able to remember it. This will mostly pertain to seldom used coding techniques and not my wife’s birthday.
  4. Reputation builder Locally in the Memphis-Shelby County area, but also nationwide, as someone who, hopefully, knows what they are talking about.
  5. Collaboration I know a blog isn’t really meant for collaboration, but it gives the ability to post ideas and then allow others, especially others in the HigherEd world, to comment which fosters a collaborative community.

I don’t want to set a schedule of posting, but I do hope to post at least once a week.  For me, this will be the challenging part as I tend to keep thoughts to myself. I always score Introvert on the Myers-Briggs test, but I am hoping to scoot that more toward the Extrovert (maybe that should be reason #6 above).

Anyway, I hope you enjoy, and as always, feel free to let me know.
